Website Design; the Process

The web industry is, perhaps, is the most evolving industries by nature. Designers have to keep up with new and emerging trends and advancements so that they can make sure that the website they create is one that serves the brand, the customers, and something that outperforms the competition. While some view it as a daunting task, the challenge it poses is perhaps one of the most intriguing things ever.

The pressure that web designers often feel is that they have to create a website that will not only satisfy the needs and queries of the consumer but also the desires of the company or brand they are designed it for. Satisfaction of consumers is calculated in the number of visits and the duration a website receives.

What goes into website designing? 

Step 1: Planning 

Before the website is created, planning is something that takes precedence. It covers areas such as:

  • What the product is
  • Who the target audience is 
  • What objectives the business wants to achieve
  • Deciding the tone of the website
  • Gauging the competition
  • Creating a rough draft of what the website would look like 

Planning is probably the most crucial part of website designing; it includes collaboration between various experts like user interface specialists, experienced designers, search engine optimizers, information engineers and even those who specialize in content strategies.

Research is the driving force behind a powerful and impactful website. It can often take months gathering and collecting data so that it can be analyzed for the best possible outcome and ideas.

Step 2: Creating the Website 

This is where the months of planning and research actually bears fruit. The creation of a website is broken down into various stages:

Creating a prototype 

The production of a blueprint/framework of a website is the first step in the creation process. A framework gives a general idea and layout of what the site will look like, if you were building a house, this would be the process where you make all the support beams.

Deciding the design 

The design involves branding the site, deciding the color scheme, how much white space needs to be left, the layout of the content, the font size and type, the visuals required and even the prioritization of the content.

Coding and Programming 

After the above-stated factors have been incorporated, web designers move towards coding through HTML, JavaScript, PHP, and many more software and platforms through which the website becomes fully functional for the users.

Quality Check 

The last thing they will have to do is carry out a function and quality check. Quality checks would be where they would fix errors, test mobile responsiveness, cross-browser compatibility, and make small text/design changes and ensure accessibility are tested.

Step 3: Constant Evolution

Even after the website is up and running, the work is not over. Web designers need to make sure that they continuously maintain and update the sites according to changes in consumer needs, desires, and trends.
Constant changes will have to be made to:

  • Content: analysis of high performing content will be a crucial indicator of best practices. That top content will be analyzed for style and technique, then applied to the rest of the website.
  • Fixing errors: slow speeds, broken links, duplicate content; all things that would show concerns to Google, would be repaired immediately.
  • Marketing: they would have to ensure that the site is being promoted on all social media and advertising platforms so that users traffic increases

This is just a step by step summary of what website designers need to do to create a successful website; the reality is that the process is more extensive and time-consuming. It requires dedication and hard work.
